Food & Provisions
Here are some of our favorites. Note that most restaurants around here close by 8pm, and some are closed on Sunday.- Hope & Olive (Greenfield): A local farm-to-table favorite. We’d recommend this for Friday night dinner.
- Posada’s Tavern (Greenfield): a shockingly good Mexican spot, right on Main St. Also great for Friday night dinner.
- People’s Pint (Greenfield): a cozy brewpub, eclectic menu, excellent wings.
- Dreamhouse (Turner’s Falls): The best brunch spot around - cozy, inviting, delicious.
- Green Fields Market (Greenfield) - Our local co-op, great for stocking up on staples and snacks you might want during your stay.
- Rise Above (Greenfield) - Great bakery: bread, bagels, pastries, good drip coffee/tea
- Adams Donuts (Greenfield) - An old Greenfield classic. We highly recommend the blueberry cake donut. Sublime.
- Upper Bend (Turner’s Falls) - Delicious food, lovely coffee, cozy sunny vibes even on cloudy days.
- Greenfield Farmers Market: Saturdays 8am-1pm
- ICE CREAM: We’re in love with the many great ice cream and “creemee” (soft serve) spots around. Ani’s parents’ favorite is Hager’s Farm Market (you can also pick up local produce and food here!). Josh & Ani are obsessed with Townline for its supremely fatty (and obviously therefore superior) soft serve. There are more spots further afield, but we’ll try not to overwhelm you. If you want to catch ‘em all, ask us!
Adventures
We’re so excited to share this magical valley with you. Here are some of our faves, if you’d like to check them out while you’re here:- Magic Wings* (Deerfield) : butterfly conservancy. So funny and so cute - great for children! (15 min drive)
- Book Mill (Montague): “books you don’t need in a place you can’t find” - a very tongue-in-cheek slogan for a beautiful bookstore nestled into an old mill along the Sawmill river. The Lady Killigrew cafe adjacent to the bookstore is a lovely space to listen to the river and have a coffee or tea or some simple eats.
- Imaginary Bookshop* (Greenfield): “I love a bookshop with a perspective” - Josh, about this bookshop. Great for kids and fantasy lovers.
- Unnameable Books (Turner’s Falls) - Another great bookstore, right around the corner from Upper Bend and Dreamhouse. There’s another location in Brooklyn, but this one is tucked away up in Western Mass.
- Apt One Shop* (Greenfield) - the best clothing shop around. Jess, the owner, stocks curated vintage and slow fashion duds.
- The Public Library* (Greenfield) - our recently built library is beautiful! Great for kids, tons of space to hang out and get work done if you needed to, or just watch the town of Greenfield from a window seat.
- Juicebox Wine Bar (Shelburne Falls): our dear friends run a sweet wine bar that serves the most inventive dishes around. A great visit if you’re in town earlier on Friday or heading out of town after Sun!
- Swimming:
- Over by the Book Mill in Montague, you can get in the Sawmill river at a spot known as “the meadows.” Turn right after the library and park in the little Mass DCR parking area at the end of North Street. Walk down through the meadow and over the little bridge. You can get in and swim right there, but if you turn left and walk down to the bend there’s a little sandy bank that’s easier to get into.
